'Knowledge is Power' child care training Feb. 19 | Families

STOCKTON - Parents, child care providers, and children’s advocates from five counties will gather in at the Family Resource and Referral Center, 509 West Weber Avenue, on Saturday, Feb. 19 to participate in the Knowledge Is Power training.

Knowledge is Power will be facilitated by Parent Voices Statewide and focus on empowering participants to advocate in response to proposed budget cuts. The training will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participants will learn about the legislative process and proposed funding cuts which threaten the availability and accessibility of child care including reductions.

The workshop will be hosted by Family Resource and Referral Center as part of its continuing efforts to protect the child care infrastructure in light of proposed budget cuts which will destroy the local child care system and delay economic recover for the region.

Schedule of events:

- 11 a.m. - Start of training with overview of the day - facilitator speaking to group.

- 11:30 a.m. - Interactive game focusing on state budget with audience participation.

- 1:30 p.m. - Understanding the State Budget - interactive educational session

Parent Voices is a statewide, grassroots, advocacy organization with county-based chapters throughout California. Parent Voices leverages the strength of parents and community organizing to advocate for accessible and affordable child care.
